In a career that began when he won the lead role in his eighth grade school musical, something that he auditioned for just to get out of Math class, critically acclaimed character actor Timothy J. Cox has shown no signs of slowing down.
The actor, who has called New York City his home for 15 years, continues to give lauded performances in numerous stage and film productions, in roles large and small, classical and contemporary.
Born in Philadelphia, Cox began studying acting in high school, performing in numerous plays and musicals. During this time Tim saw two performances on film that inspired him to make acting his life's work, Jack Lemmon in "Days of Wine and Roses" and Donald Sutherland in "Ordinary People". Both performances, especially Lemmon's (one of the actor's many idols) had a profound effect on the young actor. Tim continued his acting studies at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio and appeared in numerous plays, many of them classical works by the likes of Shakespeare, Moliere, Feydeau and Sophocles. After graduating from college in 1999, Cox worked a series of odd jobs back in Wilmington, Delaware, where he did the majority of his growing up, but also found time to appear in a few theatre productions before he made the move to New York City in 2001.
Since then, he has continued his work in the theatre, but has also appeared in over 50 films, with appearances in numerous independent short and feature films, earning positive reviews from numerous critics, as well as the title ''the Johnny Depp of Indie cinema'' from the independent film site Rogue Cinema.
Since 2010, Cox has collaborated on five films with acclaimed writer/director Sean Meehan: "Over Coffee", The Beachcomber(2010)_,"You're Not Safe Here", Mallas, MA(2013) and "Total Performance".
Highly regarded and respected by colleagues, Timothy J. Cox is an artist devoted to an excellence rarely practiced in these days when instant fame and fortune seem more important than the work itself.
